Robert Guerrero has vacated his International Boxing Federation super featherweight title to be with his wife, Casey, as she battles leukemia.

Casey Guerrero is in hospital as she recovers from a bone marrow transplant and chemotherapy.

Guerrero announced his decision on Tuesday, a week after he was forced to drop out of a proposed bout with Michael Katsidis.

Dementieva wins Paris Indoors title

Russias Elena Dementieva won the Paris Indoors WTA tournament for the first time in her ninth attempt on Sunday defeating Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic 6-7 , 6-1, 6-4 in the final.

The 28-year-old Russian, who won the Olympic title in Beijing in 2008, grabbed an early break in the third set and held on to win her second WTA title of the year after Sydney.

Soderling seizes Rotterdam title as Youzhny retires

Roland Garros finalist Robin Soderling became the first Swede in nearly two decades to win the Rotterdam Open as he defeated injured former champion Mikhail Youzhny 6-4, 2-0 Sunday.

World number eight Soderling broke a personal title dry spell dating back to last July in Bastad as he earned the victory in 54 minutes.

Roddick, Verdasco to duel for San Jose title

Top seeds Andy Roddick and Fernando Verdasco will duel for the SAP Open ATP title Sunday, but not before each was extended to three sets in the semi-finals.

Second-seeded Verdasco, trying to become the first Spaniard to win a title in the San Francisco Bay area since Manuel Santana in 1964, defeated Uzbekistans Denis Istomin 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.

Shockey leaves a mark on Super Bowl this time

Jeremy Shockey wasn’t in a suite for this Super Bowl. Instead, he was part of the New Orleans Saints’ sweetest victory.

And for Shockey, that 2-yard score had to feel like redemption. He was with the New York Giants - in name only - when they won the Super Bowl two years ago, watching that title game from a suite and feeling like an outcast after breaking his left leg and missing their scintillating playoff run.

Top seed Marin Cilic of Croatia retained his ATP Zagreb indoor tournament title here on Sunday defeating German journeyman Michael Berrer 6-4, 6-7 , 6-3 in just over two-and-a-half hours.

“I was a bit late on the ball but I believe that in key moments I had a very good serve.

“Berrer played very well today.

Sonnen tops Marquardt at UFC 109 to get title shot

Chael Sonnen beat Nate Marquardt by unanimous decision in the co-main event of UFC 109 Saturday night to earn a shot at the middleweight title.

Sonnen controlled Marquardt for much of the fight, taking him down multiple times and landing a number of solid blows.

All three judges had it 30-27 for Sonnen, who will face the winner of the Anderson Silva-Vitor Belfort bout in April.

Ex-Indiana player Leary arrested on fraud charges

Indiana broadcaster and former Hoosiers player Todd Leary has been arrested on felony charges in connection with what authorities say was a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme.

The charges against Leary include conspiracy to misappropriate real estate title insurance escrow funds, by improperly transferring about $1.

Colts’ Freeney hoping to work out Friday

Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney is hoping to test his sore right ankle for the first time during Friday’s Super Bowl practice.

The All-Pro has been getting treatment and said the ankle is gradually improving.

Freeney tore a ligament in the ankle late in the 30-17 victory by Indianapolis over the Jets in the AFC title game.

Hopkins and Jones book long-delayed rematch

Seventeen years after losing their first fight, Bernard Hopkins is to finally get his chance for revenge on fellow American Roy Jones Jr in April.

Hopkins (50-5-1, 32 knockouts) and Jones (54-6, 40 knockouts) have not met since a May 22, 1993 IBF middleweight title bout in Washington, where Jones claimed a unanimous decision.
