NFL requires reimbursement for absent McKinnie

Minnesota Vikings left tackle Bryant McKinnie must pay back the NFL for his non-participation in the Pro Bowl.

NFL spokesman Randall Liu also said McKinnie has forfeited his $22,500 game check.

The NFL said Friday it will require a $4,285 reimbursement from McKinnie for expenses incurred that week in Miami.

Peppers heads potential unrestricted free agents

Carolina defensive end Julius Peppers, Buffalo wide receiver Terrell Owens and New Orleans safety Darren Sharper are among 235 NFL players scheduled to become unrestricted free agents next month.

Also among the players on their way to being free to sign with another club in an uncapped 2010 season, starting March 5, are Indianapolis linebacker Gary Brackett, New England nose tackle Vince Wilfork, Oakland defensive end Richard Seymour and Arizona linebacker Karlos Dansby.

NFL names Vincent VP of active player development

The NFL named former All-Pro cornerback Troy Vincent vice president of player development for active players on Thursday.

He will oversee a broad array of support programs for players and their families, including the Rookie Symposium, Conduct Management Program and LifeSkills, and will work on new programs that will address the needs and concerns of incoming and current NFL players.

Vikings’ suit over NFL suspensions goes to trial

The Minnesota state lawsuit over the NFL’s suspensions of Vikings players Kevin Williams and Pat Williams will go to trial next month.

The Williamses were suspended for four games after testing positive in 2008 for a banned substance that can mask the presence of steroids. They sued the NFL, arguing the testing violated Minnesota labor laws.

Oakland’s Janikowski signs richest deal for kicker: report

The Oakland Raiders have re-signed Sebastian Janikowski to the richest contract given to an NFL kicker, the Oakland Tribune reported on Tuesday.

“He is the best kicker in the NFL and the Raiders have recognized that fact by rewarding him with this monstrous contract,” said the players agent Paul Healy.

Goodell given new contract until March 2015

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has been given a new five-year contract running until March 2015.

The NFL said Friday that owners voted to award the new contract when they met in December. Goodell’s compensation will remain the same, Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank said.

Ex-NFL star Sapp released from Fla. jail on bond

Former NFL star Warren Sapp has been released from jail on $1,500 bond, a day after being arrested in Miami Beach on charges he choked a woman in his hotel room.

The network has pulled Sapp off the air until it investigates the matter.

Sapp was charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic battery in the incident early Saturday after a night of partying.

Sapp questioned in domestic battery investigation

Former NFL star Warren Sapp is being questioned by Miami Beach police for an alleged domestic battery incident.

Sanchez says the 37-year-old Sapp has not been arrested. Details of the allegations haven’t been released.

Police spokesman Juan Sanchez says Sapp was brought in Saturday afternoon and detectives are still interviewing him.

NFL owners meet to discuss labor situation

NFL owners have met for several hours to discuss the labor situation, although it appears they are no closer to reaching an agreement with the players’ union for a new collective bargaining agreement.

Some of the owners listened to a presentation by NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith on Saturday as the two sides try to avoid a lockout in 2011, when the current labor pact expires.
