Curtis Granderson donned the pinstripes as the newest member of the New York Yankees on Thursday and the owner said the World Series champions had not yet finished constructing the 2010 team.

Kobe’s jumper at OT buzzer lifts Lakers over Bucks

Kobe Bryant hit a 15-footer as time expired and scored the game’s final seven points over the last 1:18 of overtime to lift the Los Angeles Lakers to a 107-106 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night.

Given a second chance, he backed down Charlie Bell again and drained the jumper to start the celebration.

Bledsoe leads No. 4 Kentucky past Indiana 90-73

Eric Bledsoe scored 23 points and Patrick Patterson had 19 points and 11 rebounds, leading No. 4 Kentucky to a 90-73 victory at Indiana.

Indiana students had a special greeting for Calipari. They chanted “S-A-T, S-A-T,” a reminder of Calipari’s latest round with the NCAA, in which there were questions about who took Derrick Rose’s standardized tests when Calipari was coaching Memphis.

Wagner holds off Saint Peter’s 59-58

Ryan Conrad scored 12 points and Wagner picked up its first win of the season by holding off Saint Peter’s 59-58 on Saturday.

Clifton Spiller hit a jumper with 1:16 left to give Wagner 53-51 lead, and the Seahawks built the advantage to 57-51 on T.J. Czeski’s two free throws with 24 seconds left.

McCoy: Didn’t know rule about stopping clock

Texas quarterback Colt McCoy didn’t realize the football must hit something before the clock stops when he tossed away a pass at the end of Longhorns’ 13-12 victory against Nebraska - a gaffe that nearly left his team with no time to kick the game-winning field goal.

After McCoy’s pass, the clock hit :00 and the Cornhuskers began to celebrate.

New pitcher Lee beats Giants in Phillies’ debut

Cliff Lee spotted his fastball with precision, and his curveball, too. What a National League debut for the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner.

Jayson Werth homered to put Philadelphia ahead early and added a two-run single in the seventh, Raul Ibanez drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh for an insurance run and Lee did the rest.

Wise hit gives White Sox win 3-2 over Yankees

DeWayne Wise hit a game-ending RBI single in the ninth inning to give the Chicago White Sox a 3-2 victory over the New York Yankees on Thursday night.

After a miserable 1-6 road trip, the White Sox also got an RBI double by Gordon Beckham in the third inning as Chicago won for just the second time in eight games.

Ortiz, after drug report, hits go-ahead homer

Hours after he was linked to a positive drug test, David Ortiz hit a go-ahead homer in the seventh inning and the Boston Red Sox rallied to beat the Oakland Athletics 8-5 on Thursday.

The New York Times reported just before the game that Ortiz was on the list of more than 100 major leaguers who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003.

A jolt went through the Philadelphia Phillies clubhouse when the club announced it had traded for Cliff Lee, the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner.

Yusmeiro Petit matched a career high with eight strikeouts and won for the first time since Aug. 23, 2008, a span of 11 starts.

Lee couldn’t help the Phils in a 4-0 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night.

Jones homers, helps Orioles rally past Royals 7-3

Adam Jones homered and drove in three runs, Nick Markakis also had three RBIs, and the Baltimore Orioles rallied to beat the Kansas City Royals 7-3 Wednesday night.

After Kansas City starter Zach Greinke pitched six innings of five-hit ball and left with a 3-2 lead, the Orioles went ahead with a three-run seventh that kept the Royals’ ace winless in July.
