A’s manager Geren agrees to one-year extension

Manager Bob Geren has agreed to a one-year extension with the Oakland Athletics through the 2010 season, the American League team said on its website (oakland.athletics.mlb.com) on Tuesday.

“Bob has done a fantastic job and weve finally given him more tools to work with,” Oakland owner Lew Wolff told the San Francisco Chronice (www.sfgate.com). “All last year, he never let down his enthusiasm and his teaching with the young guys.”

The 47-year-old Geren will be beginning his third season with the team next month and has compiled a 151-172 record in Oakland.

The Athletics finished a disappointing third in the American League West last season with a 75-86 record after starting 51-42.
